BPS: Increase in Drug Prices Triggers Largest Inflation in July 2021

TEMPO.CO , Jakarta - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that throughout July 2021 the Consumer Price Index (CPI) experienced inflation of 0.08 percent. When viewed in a calendar year, the inflation rate in July 2021 reached 0.81 percent (year-to-date/ytd) and annually reached 1.52 percent (year-on-year/yoy).
By expenditure group, the highest inflation in July occurred in the health sector. Head of the Central Statistics Agency, Margo Yuwono, explained that the health expenditure group experienced inflation of 0.24 percent mtm and contributed to inflation of 0.01 percent.
"Regarding yesterday's PPKM, health inflation was the highest, seen from the subgroup on health, of which the price rose was the subgroup of medicines and health products by 0.47 percent," said Margo in a virtual press conference, Monday, August 2, 2021.
In addition, other expenditure groups that experienced high inflation during the past month were food, beverages, and tobacco. The group recorded inflation of 0.15 percent and contributed to inflation of 0.04 percent.

Of the 11 expenditure groups, BPS saw that there were two groups experiencing inflation, namely deflation, namely the transportation and personal care groups. “Transportation experienced a 0.01 percent deflation, a relatively small contribution. Then the group for personal care and other services expenditures had a deflation of 0.07 percent,” said Margo.
